Abu Tarif ‘Adi ibn Hatim at-Ta’i reported that he heard the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, say, “Whoever swears an oath to do something and then sees something nearer to godfearing than it, should do the thing which will result in more fear of Allah.” [Muslim]
